BARREN RIVER LAKE SCOUT CELEBRATION
(August 14~16, 2009)

2009 was the second year that Pack 868 has attended the annual Scout Celebration at Barren River Lake's Tailwater Campground.  The event is hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is open to Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts of all ages.  An estimated 700 scouts attended the event representing several dozen units.  Troop 868 was also in attendance and camped about 200 yards away in another corner of the same large field.  The event provided scouts with opportunities to fish, swim, canoe, kayak, participate in various competitions, hike a nature trail, and even cross a rope bridge constructed on site by Boy Scout Troop 868.  We camped in tents and rode to and from camp on one of Troop 868's buses.  We watched a movie on the bus TVs during the trip home.  The weather was great and it was fun weekend.

After lunch, Cubmaster Frank and Den Leader Rich led the boys on a 1-mile nature hike. Pack 868 Cubs watched as the Boy Scouts of Troop 868 began to assemble a rope bridge.
Once they got the basic structure secured, the Boy Scouts let the Cubs do some of the lashings. Boy Scout Gabe watches closely as Bear Cub Dawson works on a lashing.
