BARREN
RIVER LAKE SCOUT CELEBRATION
(August 2010)
The annual Scout
Celebration at Barren River Lake is always held on the second weekend of
August at the Tailwater Campground. The program has slowly evolved
to become more of an event for Cub Scouts and younger Girl Scouts than
for Boy Scouts and older Girl Scouts. The Cubs got to shoot bows
and arrows, hike a nature trail through the woods, go swimming in the
lake, and participate in a Saturday night campfire program complete with
skits. They also got to build fires, do some cooking, sleep in
real Boy Scout canvas wall tents, and experience camping with other
units in a camporee environment. They attended several flag
ceremonies and an in-camp worship service on Sunday morning. And
they got to watch movies on the bus during the 2-hour rides both to and
from camp!
