BLUE & GOLD BANQUET (Sat, March 7, 2009)
Page 1

The Blue and Gold Banquet is basically a Pack Meeting with a meal.  Like most recognition dinners, it's a long event that lasts about 3 hours and grandparents are invited as well as parents and older siblings.

Lots and lots of patches and other awards are typically presented at Blue & Gold Banquets; and that was certainly the case this year.  It takes a bit of time, but every boy deserves his due recognition.

Blue & Gold Banquets are a time for some friendly completion to see which den can best decorate their tables to convey the theme of the banquet.  This year's theme was "Scouting in the Wild, Wild West."  The Webelos den made a banner and had their tables decorated with placemats, feathers, kerosene lanterns, and napkins folded in the shape of scout neckerchiefs.  Naturally, the color scheme was blue and gold.

The Bear den staked out territory at the front of the room.   Before the meeting got started, the Cub Scouts enjoyed looking at all the cakes.

Members of the Webelos Den wearing their feather headdresses -- Mrs. Vissers, Travis, Austin, Mr. Vissers, Jonathan, and Scott.   Cubmaster Bob Meek began the evening's program by recognizing all the new members who had joined Pack 868 since our last Pack Meeting.

Recruiter patches were awarded to all the scouts who had brought friends into the Pack.   Scouts who had earned their Bobcat Badges were recognized, along with their parents.

Kenneth, Connor, Matt, Caden, Calvin, and Josh received patches for participating the Pack's Christmas Caroling event at a local nursing home.   A large number of scouts received patches for participating in the Pack's swim party during Christmas Break.

Another large group was recognized for participating in a Pack field trip to visit the Glassworks Factory in January.   Webelos Scouts Scott and Austin received patches for going on a winter camping trip with Boy Scout Troop 868 in January.
