BLUE
& GOLD BANQUET (March
5, 2011)
Page 1
The Blue
& Gold Banquet is part party and part Pack Meeting. In
Pack 868, it's a full evening event and begins with a pot-luck
dinner by dens. The Community Center is decorated in that
year's theme --- for 2011 it was "Cubs Reach for the
Stars." So stars were hung from the ceiling and the
different dens decorated their tables with rockets, telescopes,
and aliens. Naturally the predominate colors were blue and
gold!
Since the
Boy Scouts of America was founded in February, the banquet is
also an celebration of the anniversary of Scouting in the United
States. In keeping with that theme, our "oldest
Scout" was called upon to tell the story of how Scouting
came to America.
One of the
highlights of the event is an auction of Cub-baked cakes.
Boys had a choice of categories, such as Best Portrayal of the
Banquet Theme, Tallest Cake, and Most Chocolate Cake.
There were a total of about 7 different categories. But
the real fun was the auction to see whose cake would fetch the
highest bid. Everyone had a good time and several hundred
dollars were raised for the Pack's treasury.
Various
awards were also presented, including a number of belt loops,
patches for various pack activities, and a couple of rank
advancements.
