PACK MEETING
Pack 868 will hold Pack Meetings every 4~6 weeks
throughout the 2009-2010 program year.  Like weekly
Den Meetings, Pack Meetings will generally be held at the
Shepherdsville Community Center on Thursday nights and
will run from 7:00-8:30 PM.

Our next Pack Meeting will be our Pack Christmas Party
on Thursday, December 17.

Pack Meetings are where awards and achievements scouts have earned are formally presented.  Parents are expected to attend.  Grandparents and other family members are welcome.
The program can be long and boring for younger siblings,
so parents are encouraged to arrange childcare
so that they can enjoy the program and devote their attention
to their Cub Scout for the night.

LET'S GO CAMPING!
Pack 868 second-year Webelos will be going camping
with Boy Scout Troop 868 over the weekend of
Friday-Sunday, January 15~17.
They will be cabin camping at Camp Rotary.
During the day the Webelos will be working on various
Webelos Activity Pins to help them toward earning their
Arrow of Light Award.  The weekend program will also likely include a campfire program with skits and a short night hike.
The Webelos will be also assisting with meal preparation.
Money and permission forms will be due at den meetings on Thursday, January 14.

SCOUT RECRUITING
Boys may join Scouting any time during the year.  Visitors are always welcome at weekly den meetings.  Current members who bring a friend that joins will earn a "Recruiter" patch
to wear on their uniform.

PARENT PARTICIPATION
Parent participation is a key element in a boy's success in the Scouting program.  If you are a Pack parent who has not yet gotten involved, please consider doing so.  If not as a Den Leader or assistant, then as a member-at-large on the Pack Committee.

The sons of participating, informed parents tend to be much more active and get the maximum benefit from the program.

PACK COMMITTEE MEETING
The next Pack Committee Meeting will be Monday, January 4,
7:00 PM at the Community Center.

The Pack Committee is the appropriate forum to discuss any ideas, issues, or other matters related to the operation of the unit.  Every parent is welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in the monthly Pack Committee Meeting.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING
One of the easiest fundraising things we do is save and recycle
aluminum cans.  Pack families are urged to bag up their cans and
bring them to any Thursday night meeting.  It would be great if
you could smash them flat before bringing them, but we'll still
accept them un-smashed.  The Pack will also accept and haul off
old cars or other significant amounts of scrap metal.
This includes old air-conditioners, stoves, and other
appliances.  We'll also take old guttering and scrap wire.
Virtually anything metal.

PINEWOOD DERBY
One of the highlights of the Cub Scouting year in the annual
PINEWOOD DERBY.  Car kits will be distributed to scouts in early January and cars will be built at weekly den meetings during the January and early February.  The actual race will be on Saturday, February 20 at the Community Center.
Parents may bring in any of their tools to weekly den meetings, but all work on the cars must be done at the Community Center on Thursday nights.  This insures that all the cars will actually be boy-built cars.  The goal of the Pinewood Derby is to teach the boys something about woodworking; winning the race is secondary and adults need to keep the race in perspective.  We'll have a separate "Adult Division" for those pack adults who
want to build and race their own Pinewood cars.

CANDY BAR BLITZ
The Cub Scouts of Pack 868 will once again be invited to sell candy bars with the Boy Scouts of Troop 868 over the weekend of February 5~7.  This is a fun and easy fundraising event that generates the money to pay for things like the Pinewood Derby cars, meeting supplies, and other program activities.  Scout support of pack fundraising is expected.
