WEEKLY DEN MEETINGS (January~May, 2011)
Page 1

During weekly den meetings, Cub Scouts work on rank advancement requirements, make crafts, play games, and/or take field trips.  Activities are planned by the Den Leaders and can vary widely from week to week.  But emphasis is always on learning in a FUN way.

At our January Pack Meeting, scouts lined up to receive recognition and a patch for participation in a recent pack activity. A skit performed by one the dens left Cubmaster Frank and Assistant Cubmaster Meek stranded with glasses of water on their backs.
One January meeting featured a movie about how to make Pinewood Derby cars. Boys first drew a design for their cars on paper, then traced the design onto the wood block.
Troop Committee Chairman Tom Gordon brought his band saw and did a rough cut on the cars. But the scouts had to do the finish work and all the sanding and painting.
Yup ... it's beginning to look like race car! One of the Webelos used a Dremmel tool under the watchful eye of his mother.
Building the Pinewood cars is as much fun for some of the parents as it is for the boys --- but we try to keep the focus on the boys doing most of the work. With plastic spread out to protect the floor, most of the boys did their own painting.  For many, it was their first experience with spray paint.

At a weekly den meeting in March, our Wolf Den learned to play table tennis.

Most of the boys were able to grasp the concerts of the game pretty quickly.
The boys took turns playing matches against each other. As they got better, a few decided to challenge their Den Leader.
