FISHING DERBY  (Sat, April 19, 2008)

The Fishing Derby was planned and hosted by Boy Scout Troop 868.  Local Cub Scout Packs 848 and 868 both participated.  The event was held on a private farm in Shelbyville that had two well-stocked ponds.  Every Pack 868 Cub Scout who attended caught at least one fish.  (Fishing is always more fun when one catches fish!)  Troop 868 provided lunch and trophies for the winners of several fishing and casting contests.  The weather was sunny and dry, but a bit on the cool side due to a steady breeze.  Rain had been predicted but held off until mid-afternoon just as the event was concluding.  It was a great day of fishing and, for most of the boys, a day made even better by getting to spend it with dad or grandpa.

Caden looked every bit the fishing pro in his floppy hat and shades ... and he caught 11 fish!

Hunter fished part of the day with Josh and Josh's dad.

Tre got some help from his dad.  Boys and dads fishing together is what this event was all about.   Hunter had several catches.  He's shown here with Cub Scout Gus from Pack 848.

Josh looked very focused in this photo.   And his effort was soon rewarded as he reeled in another fish.

Josh's dad landed the largest catch of the day --- a 17 inch bass.   Caden takes his turn in the Farthest Cast contest as other Cub Scouts watch and wait their turns.
