FISHING DERBY (Saturday, April 25, 2009)

Our annual Fishing Derby is actually an event for all area Cub Scouts hosted by Boy Scout Troop 868.  Cub Scouts from several packs, including Pack 868, are invited to participate.  The troop plans the whole event, provides lunch, conducts casting contents in addition to the fishing competitions, and provides trophies --- all at no cost to the participating Cubs.

This year's event was held at a private lake in nearby Brooks, KY.  The pond was well-stocked and several LARGE fish were caught.  Had it not been for some rather strong and gusty wind, the fish would have been biting even better.  But even with the wind, most boys caught at least a couple of fish and everyone had a good time around the lake on a beautiful, sunny April Saturday.

More photos are posted on the Boy Scout Troop 868 web site at www.bsatroop868.com/Fishing2009.htm.

Zack has the look of a fisherman determined to catch that elusive 4-foot catfish.

The "Poyner Pair" gets it.  Father-son fishing is what the Fishing Derby is all about

Three generations of fishermen from Caden's family.   Jonathan observes as his cousin Scott fishes.

Josh didn't catch many fish, but he was very good at catching water turtles.   Tre concentrates on slowly reeling in his bait.  The day was beautiful but a bit too windy for fish to bite.

"Hey, dad, you watch the water; I'll keep an eye on this guy behind us with the camera."   Cameron, Grandpa, and Trey take time from fishing to wave.

Mr. Frank helped with one of the afternoon casting contests.   And, of course, as Caden demonstrates, there was time to feed the ducks before we left.
