CAMP
FRIEDLANDER 2009 (Friday~Sunday, April
3~5)
Page 1
A trip to Cub World
at Camp Friedlander near Cincinnati has become an annual springtime
traditional for Pack 868. Last year we stayed in "The
Castle." This year we rented "The Fort."
The Pack traveled to
Camp Friedlander as a group aboard the Troop 868 bus and watched a movie
during the 3-hour trip. Arriving in camp around 10 PM, Cubs were
anxious to stake a claim to a bed in the "bunkhouse" and get
settled in.
Saturday morning
everyone rolled out early for a Cub-cooked breakfast of pancakes.

| "The
Fort" in the Cub World area at Camp Friedlander is nestled
at the edge of the woods. Cooking is not permitted inside
the wooden fort, so we set up our shepherd stoves (elevated wood
grills) at the edge of the gravel driveway out front. |
| The first
challenge of the chilly and foggy morning was firebuilding.
Teams of Cub Scouts gathered wood then competed to see who would
be the first to get a fire going. |
| Josh and Jesse
watched as Dawson used some wadded up newspaper as tender. |
The Cubs learned to
place small sticks over the burning tender to bring the fire
along. |
| Once the fires were
ready, cast iron griddles were placed over the grills and
pancake cooking began. |
Kenneth got some help
in learning how to flip pancakes as Caden watched and awaited
his turn. |
| Den Leader Coach
Julia Brown gave Matthew some assistance. |
The group ate
together inside one of the large corner rooms inside The Fort.
| Kenneth and Tre seem
satisfied with the meal. |
The Cubs then got to
help wash the dishes!
