HALLOWEEN
PARTY
(Saturday, October 29, 2011)
Halloween is a big
deal for boys of Cub Scout age, so Pack 868 always throws a party complete with
candy, games, and ghost stories. Siblings are included. All the
children and most of the parents come in costume. A
trailer carrying a skeleton-filled coffin and grave markers greeted
guests at the door of the Community Center as they arrived. It was
impressive in the daylight and downright spooky after dark. Cub
Scouts and their siblings were able to play a host of different
carnival-style games, bob for apples, and jump inside an inflatable
bouncy. Everyone enjoyed a dinner of chili, hot dogs, sodas, and
cake. And, of course, plenty of Halloween Candy! Count
Dracula (Cubmaster Frank) did an interactive story with the group.
Then, after dark, Robin Hood (Assistant Cubmaster Meek) turned out the
lights, lit a single blood red candle, and told a ghost story.

| The
bouncy dog was a very popular attraction. |

Steven Frank (Count Dracula) had the group fall into formation
only long enough to give a brief overview of the festivities. |

Most
leaders and many parents joined into the spirit of the season
and donned costumes. We had witches, vampires, and even a
giant pumpkin! |
 |
| Here we
have a swamp creature, a GhostBuster, a gangster, a cowboy (did
John Wayne ever walk around with his shirttail out?), an
imperial storm trooper, a milk maiden, and the Grimm Reaper. |
 |
| This group
included a soldier, a giant chicken, a wrestler, an alien,
another storm trooper, Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the Mario
Brothers, and a zombie vamp. |
 |
| The
younger set included a fairy princess, a Ninja Turtle, a puppy
dog, someone in a tuxedo, a race car driver, and an angel. |
 |
| The
winners of the costume contest included Obi-Wan Kenobi (best
overall), the swamp monster (most scary), and Raggedy Ann (most
original). |
