LITTLE LEAGUE PARADE (Saturday, April 11, 2009)

Boy Scout Troop 868 and Cub Pack 868 were asked to provide a color guard for the opening day kick-off parade of the Okolona Little League Baseball Association.  Scouts from the two units carried the colors and led a parade down the center of Preston Highway from the parking lot of the Home Depot to Southern High School.  The parade ended at the pitcher's mound of baseball field #1.

Scouts were followed by fire and police vehicles, local dignitaries, and players from the various baseball teams.  In total, over 500 people marched in the parade.

Scoutmaster Bob Meek assigned jobs and explained what everyone was to do since none of the Cub Scouts had done this sort of thing before.

Boy Scout Jon carried the American flag and set the pace.  Webelos Scouts Scott and Travis carried the Pack 868 and Troop 868 flags, respectively.

The scouts marched down the middle of Preston Highway.   The parade then proceeded through the parking lot of Southern High School to the ball fields located behind the school.

The scouts arrived at the ball field sooner than everyone else because all the dignitaries who rode in vehicles had to stop and park.   But hundreds of baseball players soon showed up.

The scouts received many positive comments for their community service.   Scouts remained on the field and held the flags throughout the brief opening ceremonies.
