PINEWOOD DERBY  (Feb 14, 2009)
Page 1

The annual Pinewood Derby is one of the highlights of the Cub Scout program year.  As is traditional in Pack 868, 100% of the work on the boys' cars had to be done at weekly den meetings to insure that the cars were truly "boy-built."  Parents were more than welcome to come on Thursday nights to assist and to bring whatever tools they wanted to haul to the Community Center.  Naturally, many of the more talented craftsmen ended up helping boys other than their own sons.  Win or lose, every boy ended up with a car that he could call his own.

Two employees from the Shepherdsville Lowe's store visited our den meeting one evening to show a video and share some tips about car building.  Cubs and parents both enjoyed their presentation.

Webelos Chris and Austin began sanded their cars after some parent help with the initial cutout.   Webelos Den Leader Christie Vissers observes Travis' progress as Scott sanded on his car.

Tiger dad Steven Frank worked with Tiger Cubs Kenneth and Matthew.   Connor sands his car as Trey receives some advice from his dad.

Wolf Den Leader Will Rich watches as Caden begins sanding his car.   Henry waits for his dad to cut out a pattern.

Bears Tilyr and Jesse hold up their cars as Brandon works on his car at the table.   Cubmaster Bob Meek uses a coping saw to do an initial cutout of a scout's car.
