VETERAN'S
DAY CEREMONY (November
2010)
Veteran's Day fell
on Thursday this year. Since this was our regular meeting night,
Cubmaster Frank encouraged scouts to come early and attend a special
Veteran's Day program in the foyer of the Bullitt County Courthouse
prior to our weekly den meetings. The half-dozen scouts who showed
up were surprised to be asked to provide a color guard and lead the
Pledge of Allegiance to start the program.
A speaker delivered
a patriotic speech about the service our veterans have provided over the
year and closed with a very moving poem that was a perfect fit for
occasion. When an invitation was given for any veterans present to
stand and share a personal story, World War II veteran Joe Milner told
about some of his experiences flying in B-24 bombers in Europe. It
was a good talk for the boys to hear.
Afterward, the group
hung around to take a few photos (below) and got interviewed by a
Courier-Journal reporter. Who knows ... maybe they'll get their
picture in the newspaper as well as on the Web!

The crowd for the ceremony was small
but the program was well-planned and interesting.
